26/06/2006: Tiong urged Chinese Aided Schools to register themselves with Federal

BINTULU : The Board of Management of all Government Aided Primary Schools throughout the State of Sarawak are advised to register themselves with the Education Department to ensure its legitimacy.

Member of  Parliament for P216 Bintulu Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said this was in compliance to the Education Act and the legitimacy of the board would not be questioned if there were  a dispute arise in near future.

Speaking at the Teachers’ Day celebration and  9th Installation of the new office bearers of Bintulu United  Aided Chinese Primary Schools Association held at Highlands Seafood Restaurant Friday evening, Tiong also urged the respective Board of Management of the said schools to monitor closely on their pupils’ activities in view of the ongoing Football World Cup least they  got involved in betting.

Tiong’s text of  speech was read by the President of Federation of Bintulu Registered Chinese Association, Pau Chiong Ung as the former was unable to attend the function due to an unforeseen circumstances.

Tiong commended the sacrifices and efforts put in by the Board of Management of all the primary and secondary Chinese schools to uphold and perpetuate the mother tongue or Chinese language among the Chinese community.

He said even now there were estimated 60,000 Bumiputra pupils were enrolling and studying at Chinese Primary and Secondary Schools throughout the country.

“This is a positive development as our various  Bumiputra communities are receptive and enhance their understanding about the Chinese culture and its noble values,” said Tiong.

Tiong said  the Barisan Nasional government recognition  the importance of  Chinese language  was obvious as it had employed Chinese interpreters at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and erecting signboards written in Chinese characters.

Tiong also donated RM10,000 to the association as its expenses for hosting the function.

Earlier, chairman  Kapitan Kong Chit Pit of the association called on teachers to continuously and improving themselves in knowledge especially in the field of Information Technology and Communication.

He said the office bearers of the association which comprised of representatives from the various Board of Management  need to work in coordination and cooperation as to provide an ideal conducive learning environment for the pupils.
