13/09/2006: 50 Doors Buli Longhouse Razed to the ground by morning fire, 500 Make Homeless

Bintulu – A 50 doors longhouse at Tubau, Naga Kelabai located about 100 kilometre off Bintulu here was razed to the ground in an early morning fire at 2:00am.

According to the Tuai Rumah, Buli anak Eyeling, about 3 million worth of property, valuable belongings as well as the last harvested paddy and rubber sheets were risen with the smoke.

He said, the fast spreading fire engulfing the building in half an hour time whereby everyone ran for their lives and majority of them failed to secure any of their valuable belongings.

He said, it took only an hour for the fire to raze down the building.

It was believed that a capsized lamp was the cause of fire.

Following the incident, the Member of Parliament for Bintulu, Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing JP had immediately dispatched a team to the fire scene with the officers from divisional welfare department and Fire and Rescue Brigade.

Liew Ah Lek, representative of Tiong extent the MP’s sympathy to all the fire victim whereby he urged the divisional welfare department here to expedite the investigation reports so that the immediate action could be taken, as well as the immediate relief.

Tiong also hoped that with the prompt arrangement, the studies of the longhouse students won’t be affected.

Liew said the MP would try his best to assist the victims, as well as seeking way to assist them to reconstruct the longhouse after getting the detail reports from department concerned.

He revealed that Tiong who was attending the parliamentary sitting now would also rush to the longhouse in this coming Friday morning at 6:00pm.

He also advised those lost their important documents such as marriage certificate, national registration card, birth certificate as well as the permit of shotgun should report to the police department and department of National Registration here. 

Also at the fire scene were the press secretary to the MP Jacky Chan and Asang Akup, divisional secretary of SPDP Kemena.
