  • BINTULU: Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party Youth chief Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has called on the various government departments in central Sarawak, particularly the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID), to assess and review the recent floods now that the water has subsided. 
  • In a press statement, Tiong, who is also the Bintulu Member of Parliament, hoped this would be looked into so that reports could be sent to the Federal government for further assessment.

  • BINTULU: Bintulu Member of Parliament Dato Seri Tiong King Sing was awarded by the Kayan community in the town's ouskirts of Tubau as their legendary hero that carried the title of Belawan Buring.
  • The award was presented to him on Sunday by longhouse chieftain Awai Anyie when Tiong, who is also a Justice of the Peace, was visiting the native community in conjunction with the current Christmas celebration.
  • In the presentation, Awai described their legendary hero as an immortal figure who was brave and would stand up for the people even in times of war.

    SIBU: State CID chief Tun Hisan said the police would continue to work round the clock going after second-rung gang leaders now that most of their top leaders were behind bars.

    On the promotion of under-performing police personnel as alleged by Bintulu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Hisan said the promotion of any police officers was the prerogative of the Inspector General of Police.

  • KUCHING: Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Talib Jamal yesterday finally admitted that there was “a possibility” that several officers in Miri were being investigated for having ties with gangsters.
  • “There could be some lower rank officers who were ‘baik’ (nice) to gangsters. Some names may have surfaced.
  • “The fact is that I really don’t know,” Talib added.

  • After the phone conversation with the local Police Chief Superintendent Sulaiman Abdul Razak, Tiong was assured by him that police would pursue to all means, including resolving to INTERPOL to trace whosoever believed to have involved in the cold blooded crime.
  • The police chief further revealed to the MP that a passport belong to the suspect at large was obtained soon after the incident.
  • "That is why I've been wondering why the police of Bintagor cannot perform likewise to obtain the identity of Indonesian suspects soon after the recent murder of 21-year-old Chinese youth be reported in a burglary"

  • Bintulu: The Member of Parliament for Bintulu Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing JP expressed his disappointment over the demolition action of farming huts taken by the Land & Survey Department here while they were still waiting for the official reply from the department.
