06/08/2008: Tiong: Speeding up investigation on Sibu Bernas

Bintulu: The Chairman of Barisan Nasional Back Benches Club (BNBBC), Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing called on the investigators to speed up their work to prevent public members from becoming panicky again over the feared rice shortage in the market.

As the investigation continued, he said there should be an assurance that rice supply in the region would not be affected.

Also a Justice of Peace, he was happy that the situation had been calm so far.

He said rice is a controlled item, but, he was puzzled as to why there had been such invoice irregularities.

In the current investigation, he called for efforts to ensure the people would not have to suffer further as they were trying to recover from the global inflation burden.

"Rice is a necessity item. The government has worked hard to overcome the grain shortage. Therefore, those involved in the business should not try making unscrupulous profits out of the government's subsidies."
