| BINTULU: Preparation
work on the site where the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE)
is scheduled to be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Abdullah
Ahmad Badawi on Monday is in full swing.
Huge tents and canopies are also being erected on the open space next to Bintulu Promenade to accommodate the 15,000 people who have been invited to the event. SCORE is one of the five corridors to be implemented by the government throughout the country which will serve as an economic impetus to transform Sarawak into a developed State by year 2020. The core of SCORE is tapping the energy resources in Sarawak to encourage investments in energy-intensive industries that will bring about plenty of job opportunities to locals in line with the government efforts to eradicate poverty. Bintulu Resident Dr Razali Abon and General Manager of Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) were on the site yesterday to supervise the preparation work. Meanwhile, invited guests including officers and staff from various government departments and agencies have also arrived. All hotels including the Inns are reported to be enjoying a 100 per cent occupancy rate. Some of the guests have been asked to put up at chalets in Similajau National Park, located about 30 kilometres from the town. The grand occasion is to be witnessed by ministers, foreign investors, dignitaries and prominent entrepreneurs. |
