| BINTULU: A police
team led by local Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief ASP Azmi
Aziz seized three boxes containing some 6,000 live bullets of the Luger
brand 9mm at MAS Cargo complex here at 12.30pm on Tuesday.
According to Azmi, initial investigations revealed that the three boxes arrived at Bintulu Airport on Jan 8, 2008, and they were later sent to the airport’s cargo section. He said the boxes were flown in through flight MH2742 from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and all the boxes were placed at the cargo section where they were not claimed until the day the police seized them. He added that the boxes were sent by a company based in Kuala Lumpur dealing in arms and ammunitions and it was addressed to the Bintulu district police chief. The police are investigating the case under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 and the scope of investigation includes that to confirm who the actual owners are as well as to study the procedures of sending such ammunitions because all the bullets were sent without being escorted by any relevant authority from KLIA to Bintulu when they were sent here. Azmi also said the
police were still doing their investigation and no arrest had been made
in relation to the case so far.
