29/02/2008:  People must not take unity for granted

BINTULU: The people have been reminded not to take the prevailing unity in the country for granted.

Bintulu Resident Dr Razali Abon said instead the people should make their best effort to preserve the unity and harmony in a multi-racial country like Malaysia.

He said credit must be given to the Barisan Nasional government for its ability to bring about harmony, peace and unity among the people of diverse races.

Razali said this at the dinner gathering organised by the Neighbourhood Committee of Kampung Assyakirin on Tuesday evening at Li Hua Hotel here. 

He said as Resident of Bintulu he had also implemented several programmes to fulfil the vision of the government such as ‘An Evening In Bintulu’ and ‘Inter-Agency Networking High Tea’ event which aimed to enhance rapport among the people of all races from different communities in Bintulu.

“It is also the aspiration of our Chief Minister Pehin Sri haji Abdul Taib Mahmud to ensure cooperation, collaboration, interaction and unity in diversity in our society,” he added.

Razali also called members of different communities to mingle and make friends so that as to promote mutual understanding and racial harmony. 

Also present at the gathering were chairman of Neighbourhood Committee of Kpg Assyakirin Abu Bakar Abdul  Razak, Zaesy Nasir Abu Nasir –political secretary to Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, Assistant Officer-in-Charge of Bintulu National Unity and Integration Department Hasri Ali, Youth Chief of PBB Jepak Division Pandi Suhaili.
