BINTULU: Elected wakil rakyat, politicians or community leaders are obliged to serve all people irrespective of their racial or ethnic background.

Bintulu Member of Parliament Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said it was the principle of Barisan Nasional government for all the people to enjoy the fruits of development and prosperity. Tiong added that the wakil rakyat should treat everyone equally besides looking after the interest or rights of people in his own community.

Tiong said this during the second day of his visit to the Dayak community located upstream of Kemena River to extend his Gawai Dayak greetings.

During his visit, Tiong was impressed that several longhouses had even installed modern solar systems to generate electricity for use.

He commented it was an economical and environment-friendly way of generating electricity for use in the longhouses.

Using diesel to generate power would be more costly these days as a result of rising fuel prices, he added.

He also advised longhouse residents not to drink too much especially those who would be driving afterwards.

Tiong was also greeted by Kemena State Assemblyman Dr Stephen Rundi anak Utom at Rumah Michael Ding.

In his welcoming address, Rundi lauded Tiong as truly the wakil rakyat of all the people for his untiring service to the people in the constituency which had enabled him to win big in the recent parliamentary general election.

Rundi also reminded the people not to be misled by the sweet promises offered by Pakatan Rakyat but to continue rally their support behind the BN government.

He pointed out that supporting Pakatan Rakyak was akin to receiving a cash cheque that “would bounce” when presented to the bank.

During the visit, Tiong allocated RM50,000 while Rundi chipped in RM40,000 as expenses for the relocation of Rumah Mikhel Ding .

Tiong and his entourage also visited Rumah Michael Lanyau and was given rousing welcome by the longhouse folks led by Deputy Chairman of Bintulu Development Authority cum former Housing Minister, Dato Sri Celestine Ujang anak Jilan.
