| In response to Ipoh
Timur MP Lim Kit Siang's statement that Dato’ Seri Tiong and his club’s
deputy chairman Bung Moktar Radin, Kinabatangan MP, are spoilt brats for
their refusal to join the opposition's Parliamentary Caucus on the Integrity
and Independent of Judiciary, Dato Seri Tiong said the opposition's caucus
was not a statutory body in the parliament, and therefore, they had the
right not to join it.
He called on Lim not to be furious over their decision. He said if the organisation was a statutory body in the House, his club members would be obliged to join. But, since the caucus was formed by the opposition under Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, they had the right to go ahead to do what they wanted to do. “Our BNBBC has the right to stay out too.” Tiong, who is also the Bintulu MP, said he was disappointed with the unkind remarks of Lim after his club declined their offer to join them. He said he and his deputy together with their club members had since been attacked by Lim with words that showed his irresponsibility and words that fanned the sentiment of the people. "Lim has even gone to the extent to accuse our club for causing their failure to topple the BN Government when our club went for an agriculture study tour to Taiwan." He said if Lim was complimenting him for protecting the BN Government when his club went to Taiwan, he thanked Lim for that, but, Tiong chose not to think highly of himself for such a capability. He regarded himself
as just an MP with a heart for the people and the nation.
He said the opposition had their right to register their own organisation. "Why they have to be furious with us for not joining them?" He hoped Lim, a veteran opposition leader who had often insisted on others to lead by examples, would show good leadership examples himself and not to mislead others with slanderous remarks. As Lim had always claimed that only PAKATAN could form a fair, just and transparent government, Tiong questioned why there was only to be one out of the nine posts in their caucus for the Barisan Nasional? “If the BN were to make an arrangement to dominate a body, I believe the opposition would have stirred the sentiment of the people again through media to destroy the Barisan Nasional." Tiong doubted why Lim had remained silent when pressmen asked him about the post allocation in their caucus. He called on Lim to stop casting baseless remarks on BNBBC while he shamelessly portrayed their leaders as ones who would do no wrong. “I hope those who launch character assassination on others and fan the sentiments of the people will not be mistaken as heroes who speak without fear nor favour in the parliament." He doubted whether it should be the duty of MPs to brush aside responsibilities whenever they cast negative remarks. "Should this be what they see as a responsibility towards the people?" Tiong regretted that
Lim had so far not offered any constructive views in the parliament towards
nation building.
