06/06/2005:SPDP donates RM200,000 to independent Chinese school

BINTULU – The Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) donated  RM 200,000 as an educational fund to SJK Chung Hua Bintulu last Friday evening. 

Its president Datuk William Mawan anak Ikom also pledged to donate another RM 100,00 to the only independent Chinese school in Bintulu, Kai Dee Secondary School, to show the party’s support of Chinese education.  

Mawan, who is also the Minister of Social Development and Urbanisation, pointed out more Bumiputras parents nowadays were sending their children to Chinese primary schools over the past 10 years. 

“Nowadays those Bumiputras can even speak and write Chinese language which I firmly believe will augur well to enhance mutual understanding and promote unity, harmonious relationship among the different races in our multiracial society,” he said when officiating the opening ceremony of a fund raising show performed by Shanghai International Acrobatic Troupe held at Muhibbah Indoor Stadium here.  

Mawan said the donation was meant to help the Board of Management of the SJK Chung Hua Bintulu build an administrative building block at its branch school in Tanjung Kidurong.  

More than 3,000 people turned up for the two-hour performance by professional acrobats.  A total of RM 400,000 were raised during the evening.
