| BINTULU:Member of Parliament for
Bintulu Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing is irked by allegations that Ikatan
Relawan Rakyat Malaysia (RELA) Bintulu has demanded payments before agreeing
to render voluntary work.
"I have received complaints from members of public that RELA Bintulu declined to render voluntary services like crowd control and maintenance fo security in public places when certain social functions are being held before the organisers pay for the service fees," he said. Tiong pointed out that the formation of RELA as a vouluntary organisation and as the country's third line of defence was aimed at providing social security during mas gathering in public or assisting traffic police to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. He also learned that poor leadership of local RELA chief had been complained by members of public, stressed that he won't hesitate to propose to change the local leader if he continuing failed to perform. He said in view of the recent rise of crime cases in Bintulu, RELA members together with Rukun Tetangga or Neighbourhood Committees should take proactive action to work closely with or cooperate with police to curb the criminal activities. I believe all RELA members are given allowances for any duties which they are assigned to perform." |
