| BINTULU : A whopping sum of RM2.2
million was raised during the Charity Concert to raise fund for the Kai
Dee Chinese Secondary School here Saturday evening.
The credit went to Member of Parliament for P216 Bintulu Dato Seri Tiong King Sing who helped to raised RM1.39 million from his business associates and friends in Peninsula Malaysia including 100 units of computer worth RM250,000 from a businessman. Tiong told the organizing committee and the guests that among the donors included prominent Malay and Indian businessmen. He said students should reciprocate their goodwill by studying hard whilst the teachers to do their best to provide quality education to students. Tiong, who is the treasurer general of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) also donated RM100,000 on behalf of the party. He said the party under the leadership of Minister of Social Development and Urbansiation had pledged to raise RM500,000 for Kai Dee Secondary School next year. In appreciation of his deed, chairman of the Kai Dee’s Board of Management Ting Siew Ching announced the appointment of Tiong as the Life Honorary Chairman to the Board. Earlier, Ting said Kai Dee Secondary School is the only Chinese Independent school in Bintulu setting up in year 2001 after moving here from Sibu Division. As it did not receive any financial grant from the government, all the expenses incurred in the running of the school and teachers' salaries need to be raised among the public yearly. He extended his heartfelt gratitude to all well wishers through their generous donation and support of the perpetuating of Chinese education. The function also featured the celebration of the 5th anniversary of the setting up of Kai Dee in Bintulu. The evening was enlivened with performance of recording artist from Taiwan Lin Shu Chuan and Malaysia's top artists, Crystal Liew,Chang Shao Ling and Andy Lok. The dinner and expenses incurred to bring in the artists were sponsored by Tanjong Batu Beach Seafood Restaurant. |
