| BINTULU : Members of the Territorial Army(TA)
are urged to fully utilize their skills and knowledge acquired during training
for the security and sovereignty of the country.
Jepak State Assemblyman Datuk Haji Talip Zulpilip said the roles and contributions made by the members of the TA was evdience during the 2nd World War, the Indonesian Confrontation and success in tackling the threats posed by the Communist insurgents in the during the 1960s-1970s. He reminded the members of TA, being the Voluntary Reservist not to abuse the knowledge they had acquired but to ensure they also maintain high morale and self discipline as to the Royal Malaysia Armed Forces. Talip remarked that tarnishing the good image of the TA was equivalent to tarnish the image of Armed Forces which might result in endangering the sovereignty of the country and the members themselves. Talip, who is also the Commander of 510 Regiment of TA, said this while deputising Chief Minister Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud at the launching of the Territoral Army Company for Bintulu Parliament Constituency yesterday at the field of Civic Centre here. He commended the setting up of TA Company in Bintulu Parliament was timely as to fulfil the government's aspiration to beef up the security aspect in the country particularly the vast geographical hinterland in the State of Sarawak. Talip said the members of TA could assist in providing security checks on illegal activities taking place along the boundary between Sarawak and Indonesia kile illegal transborder crossing. The presence of TA would ensure the residents could carry on their daily activities in a comfortable atmosphere besides it was also conducive to the development of commercial activities at specific location. Talip also pointed out the TA also provided the ordinary citizens an avenue to demonstrate their allegiance or loyalty to the country. The noble values like love, loyalty, willingness to sacrifice for the country could also be nurtured by members of TA.
