| BINTULU : Members of a syndicate
are asked t stop harrassing rubber tappers by forcing them to sell the
commodity to them at lower price.
Member of Parliament for P216 Bintulu Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said he was sad to note that several rubber tappers in Sebauh District and rural areas had complained to him over the incident. He believed the syndicate was trying to monopolise the rubber since its price in the world market was rising . "No item should be controlled by anybody as only the government is allowed to do so in the interest of the consumers by specifying certain goods as essential or controlled items," he said. Tiong said all goods must be sold at the prices agreeable to both the buyers and sellers. He said he had instructed for further evidence and information to be gather before refer the case to the police for further action. "I am calling on all those who are involving in this activity to stop it now before the arm of law catch up on you," cautioned Tioing. He also reminded them not to victimise the rubber tappers as he was also informed that they had been threatened not to sell the rubber sheet to any other dealer except to the syndicate. "The rubber tappers are earning a living from their sweats and hardship whilst expecting tehy can make some profits when the price of the rubber is high. But you are forcing them to sell to you lower than the market price," he said. Tiong said as the MP for Bintulu, he welcome anyone coming here to earn a decent living with legitimate business or through proper jobs. " But if you are coming here to create problem for the people , I assure our enforcment agencies will go all out to clean all your unbecoming activities," warned Tiong, whilst assuring the security for the Bintulu people was his top priority. Earlier this year Tioing had also urged the syndicates not to monopolise the prices of chicken eggs by forcing the poultry owners to sell them the chicken eggs at low price before they resold to the retailers at higher prices. Tiong also received a threatending letter with a live bullet delivered to his Service Centre last December after he highlighted the syndicate involvment in the sales of diesel. Meanwhile, Tiong also reminded the contractor(s) to keep the condition of Bintulu-Sibu Road and Bintulu-Miri Road to be maintained regularly and keep them in tip-top condition. "From my observaton, certian section of these roads are filled with potholes and these can pose danger to road users.," he said. Speaking to reporters during the press conference yesterday, Tiong said the contractors were bound by the terms and conditions when they were awarded the tender for upkeeping of the said roads. "I will not hesitate to recommend to the relevant Ministry to terminate the contract if you both failed to do accordingly to the specifications stipulated in the contract." he noted. |
