| BINTULU – Fourteen Kayan students
received a total of RM26?400 from Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing’s Hardcore
Scholarship today during the MP’s visit to three Kayan longhouses at Ulu
Tubau today.
They were, namely:
Navratilova, a 19 years old student from University of Tun Abdul Razak (UNITAR) Kuching revealed to the members of press that her family had been facing financial hardship ever since her father fell sick a few years ago. She was pending on the relatives’ assistance to support her studies. Meanwhile, two students from Poly Technique Kuching, Mathius Lasah Silek had been proven from a single-parent family while Kenny James Ajong’s father lost his working ability after a logging camp tragedy. Navratilova received RM3000 for her semester fee while Mathius and Kenny received RM 2000 respectively. During the dialogue session with the Kayan folks, Tiong stressed that the Hardcore Scholarship only provided to those students where their family financial had been classified as hardcore poor. After approved, the recipient also had to submit his or her semester result whereby scholarship will be terminated if the student had continuously failed or poor in his or her studies.
