BINTULU: Member of Parliament, Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing brushes aside suggestions that he will not have to work harder for the people here following the massive victory that he garnered during the last Parliamentary Election.

Instead, he saw the enormous majority as indication of greater expectation from the people here that he would be able to represent them effectively and facilitate them to enjoy development programmes implemented by the government.

"I do not believe that the people will continue to support me if I just go home and sleep after winning the election and there is no need to work. For me, if the people's support becoming stronger than I will have to work even harder for them," he added.

He made these remarks during a "Ngiling Tikai" or the closing ceremony of Gawai celebration for Rh Dana in Sebauh sub-district on Wednesday evening.

Assistant Minister of Agriculture (Farmers' Organisations and Co-operatives), Datuk Peter Nyarok Entrie; Meluan Assemblyman, Wong Judat; and Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Peter Howell Jilan were among those attending the ceremony.

After being a two-term MP so far, Tiong felt that anyone aspiring to become one or becoming a state assemblyman should continue to practice people-friendly attitude not only during election campaign periods but also throughout their terms as elected representative.

This was particularly crucial for Barisan Nasional representatives as their attitudes and behaviours would determine the support that they would gain from the people.

"Avoid being arrogant after winning elections but be prepared to work harder to meet our voters' expectations. Being politicians, we could not afford to wait for the people to slam their doors on us," he added.

Tiong, who is also Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), was also grateful with the untiring efforts shown by members of the other Barisan Nasional component parties towards ensuring the victory of coalition in the constituency here in the last parliamentary election.

"The next State general election expected later this year or by next year should be the moments for all members of SPDP here to show similar efforts to ensure that all the Barisan Nasional candidates here would win convincingly," he added.
