| Bintulu: The Ministry of Plantation
Enterprise and Commodities is studying the possibilitiy of rendering assistance
to smallholders involving in oil plantation through subsidy scheme.
This was disclosed by its Minister Datuk Peter Chin in his reply to MP for Bintulu DatoSeri Tiong King Sing at the Dewan Rakyat Sitting yesterday. Tiong had wanted to know how poor smallholders in Sarawak venturing into planting oil palm could obtain assistance from the Ministry. Chin also said the Malaysia Palm Oil Board (MPOB) had set up a Research and Development (R & D) Station at Sessang, Sarikei to offer various services to interested parties involved in planting oil palm. The services include providing quality seedlings, assisting in pest control and helping in harvesting the oil palms. "A Licensing and Enforcement Office is also available in Kuching and Bintulu where advisory services are available to those who are interestd to plant oil palm and get involved in oil palm related industries," he said. Chin also pointed out under the 9th Malaysia Plan, the MPOB would set up a R & D Centre for oil palm in Belaga to render assistance and advice to the smallholders in the area...END. |
