26/06/2005:Tiong: Inclusion of Chinese & Tamil Language in Main Syllabus Proven Open-mindedness of BN Governement

BINTULU : The Higher Education Ministry  decision to include Chinese and Tamil language in the main syllabus demonstrated the liberal policy and open-mindedness of our government.

Member of Parliament for P216 Bintulu Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said this also allaying the fear of many Chinese academicians and educationists  in the country of the possibility the government might abolish Chinese language.

Tiong said Malaysia being governed by the different political component parties which represented the muti-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural sector of the society had again proven its good and wise governance under the calibre leaders of the Barisan Nasional govenment.

"Under such pragmatic policy, we can see that more and more Malay and Bumiputra parents are sending their children to study Chinese language in government aided Chinese Primary Schools. The situation seems to get better since national schools are also offering the Chinese language syllabus," noted Tiong.

Tiong said this at the installation ceremony of the Board of Management for the United Association of Chinese Primary Adied Schools, Sarawak held at Tanjong Batu Beach Restaurant cum Teachers Day celebration Saturday evening.

Tiong also announced a grant of a total of RM130,000 to schools, namely, SJK Siong Boon (RM50,000), SJK Chung San (RM10,000), SK Sebiew (RM30,000), SJK Chung Hua Tatau (RM15,000),  Sarawak United Associaton of Chinese Primary Aided Schools (RM15,000) and its Bintulu Branch (RM10,000).
