| BINTULU: Trainees of
National Service (NS) Training Program must never treat their period at
the training camps as a mere vacation at the expense of the government.
Bintulu Member of Parliament, Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing said they should treasure all the trainings that they had gone through as invaluable towards preparing them to become better citizens and future leaders. "The training camp should never be regarded as all-expenses paid holidays as the government had emphasised that it is an investment to build up well-disciplined and committed young generation," he added. He made these remarks when officiating at the closing of the training for the second group of 02/2005 series of trainees at the Similajau Camp here on Thursday. The trainees were told that the government had spent RM10,000 on each of them throughout the three-month long training so that they could attain the proper skills to weather future challenges while adopting lifestyles that suited racially-diversed society. In the course of promoting better interactions among them, the trainees were also reminded of the social boundaries and values in which were aimed on safeguarding morality that had been practised in the Malaysian society. "The opportunities given to you should be appreciated to enhance your social skills and not as a chance for you to search for partners to become your boyfriend or girlfriend," he added. With the clear understanding over the long-term objective of the program, Tiong hoped the trainees would have learnt about setting the importance of securing the future as a priority over fulfilling current short-term needs. "The present leaders that you had seen would not be there forever and they would have to go when the times come. When this happen we need capable new leaders to take over and with proper training given, you could also be the one who could take over," he added. NS Similajau Training Camp Commandant, Mejar Shahrudin Hashim and several heads of government departments were also present during the ceremony. |
