| BINTULU: The government is planning
to set up a burns unit at the Bintulu Hospital under the Ninth Malaysia
Plan (9MP).
The unit expected ot cost RM 5 million. Deputy Minister of Health Datuk Dr. Abdul Latiff Ahmad siad the ministry made the decision in view of the risks in the division's petro-chemical and gas industrial areas. "We already have burns units in all state hospitals and under the 9MP we will be developing such units at district level hospitals and high-risk areas like in Port Dickson, Kemaman and Miri," he said. He was replying to questions by Bintulu Member of Parliament Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing in the current sitting of Parliament in Kuala Lumpur. Tiong told the house that he learnt of studies being made in the past towards creating a burns unit at the hospital here but the developement had never materialised. Dr. Abdul Latiff also explained that the cost he mentioned was only for the development of the unit but not inclusive of the cost of training human resource. |
